William + MK: Hilarious Kiddos!

WOW! Almost 1 year to the day, I photographed William and Mary Kathryn. William was 7 months old and MK was about 2 1/2. My how things have changed! William is a full-fledged toddler - getting around on those sturdy legs, hilarious, full of energy, a wild man. Mary Kathryn is a full-fledged little girl! She talks in complete sentences and is fully aware of what is going on. She is very competitive and such a ham. These two kids make me smile just looking at them. They ooze life. They are marvelous! Kathryn, thank you AGAIN for having me join you guys to capture this snapshot of your life. You all are precious. Those "babies" of yours are amazing!

I have to tell you, it is SUCH AN HONOR to be requested back into a couple's life. Two years ago, I had the great pleasure of photographing Taylor and Nate at their wedding. We did it all... engagements, bridals, and wedding. Last Saturday, we met up with their daughter at the Clinton Library grounds to snap a few for the Christmas holidays. They are just as darling and pleasant as ever! They brought me out of my pseudo-retirement. As many of you probably don't know, my husband and I welcomed our first child into the world in September. During my pregnancy, I tapered my photography work WAY back. But Taylor requested, and I couldn't say no, and I'm so glad I didn't. Enjoy the images! Taylor and Nate - thank you! Tripp + 1 Year {little rock, ar toddler photographer}

This morning I had the great pleasure of joining Tripp and his parents, Kate and Joey, for a morning down by the river. Tripp is a VERY happy, animated, one year old little boy who has your heart the moment you look at those GIANT blue eyes! It was my first time to meet Tripp despite the fact that we've known Kate and Joey for almost 7 years!! Joey and Robert went to law school together (and therefore Kate and I attended functions together). They have been so good about staying in touch with us (thanks, guys!). And so it was, we were all together at a Christmas party last year when Kate heard I take photos. We've worked all spring, dodging rain and tornadoes, to find a time to meet. Today it happened! The rain held off. The temperature was perfect. The breeze was comfortable. And the park was all ours! The rest is history! Enjoy the images of this spunky, happy little boy and his family! Night Lights: Easter Extravaganza

On April 23rd, I had the pleasure of spending time at the Night Lights Easter Extravaganza. Night Lights is a monthly Kids Night Out program for children ages 12 and under with Autism, Asperger's, and Pervasive Developmental Disorders, and their siblings. As a way to celebrate the season and raise a little money for upcoming Night Lights KNO events, Jerilyn Wasson, one of the founders of Night Lights, planned the Easter Extravaganza complete with face painting, Easter egg hunts, a blowup bouncy room, and a photo booth. It was a huge hit. My job was to man the photo booth and capture families, smiles and moments. I had a great time meeting all the different people. It touched my heart to see the parents who clearly are doing everything in their power to love these children who desperately need them. I applaud you all! Well done!

William + 7 Months

Last summer, William came into the world... one laid back dude. I had the great pleasure of photographing him days after his arrival, and he slept almost the entire shoot. Can we say, amazing?! Seven months later, we met up again for an afternoon of photos with William and his sister, Mary Kathryn, and William was all grins. Alert, attentive, and even cutting teeth! It is so much fun to have the opportunity to see these little people at different stages and see how much they grow. It is truly AMAZING to watch. Lincoln + 5 Weeks

Last summer, I ran into a friend from my childhood in the grocery store. Sarah was darling and preggers with a little boy. It is ALWAYS good to see Sarah. She has a very tender, open spirit that is welcoming and disarming. We talked a bit and she wanted to know if I am still doing photography... in December, I got the call. The baby had arrived, the house was ready, the only missing ingredient was the photographer. Despite the insane schedule leading up to the Holidays, we found a time to gather at their home and capture Lincoln's newness! I took my watch off in the car and wanted to just be with them... be in their presence, capturing their new family unit, and enjoying this baby boy. We spent the better part of the afternoon together - shooting, changing, shooting, feeding, shooting, cleaning up, shooting, sleeping. It was delightful. Walt + 22 Months

I just looked back to see where we left off with this guy... it's been well over a YEAR since photos of him graced the blog. Facebook stole the blog's thunder through the better part of the last year, but since ditching FB in the summer this is again the main spot for photos. So, where to start?! As a reintroduction, this is my nephew, Walt. Last blog post about him he couldn't sit up on his own. Now he is a running, talking, opinionated, rambunctious, loving, hilarious little boy! He has officially stolen ALL of our hearts. ALL of them! He lights up a room and brings smiles to all of our faces. Not only is it SO.MUCH.FUN to watch him, it has been truly inspiring to watch my brother be a dad. I am a huge fan of both of my brothers. Sam is the first to be a parent of the three of us. I had no doubt he would be good at it, but it has been fun to see how much he parents like himself - he's finding his way through this and being true to his true self. I never get the sense that he is trying to "be a good parent" and do what "good parents" do. He is kind, gentle, witty, blunt... all the things he is all the time only in a limited way to love this little dude. It is WONDERFUL to watch! Then there's Lori (Walt's mom). She's amazing. To watch her heart break open with joy every time she sees Walt is so fun. It's beautiful to watch them work together to maintain their individual selves and create this amazing family unit. They're all just amazing. They bring joy to all of us!

Cristin + Scott | Savannah Wedding

At the end of October, a fabulous, intimate wedding was held at the Marshall House in Savannah. It was my pleasure to be invited to document the occasion celebrating the marriage of Cristin and Scott. If you haven't been to Savannah, you really must go. There are so many things to do or not do... a museum is around every corner, a park is available every block just to sit and take in the scenery, the ocean is a short drive away. My mom joined me as my able-bodied assistant and travel partner. We made a girls weekend of it. We rented a marvelous condo in the Historic District and walked our little shoes off taking in the sights, sounds, and beverages Savannah had to offer. It was a great time to spend with her. I am SOOOO grateful to be friends with my mom, my hero, the woman who knows me BEST and adores me despite myself. She is so dear to me and it meant the world to get her all to myself for 4 whole days. On Saturday we worked together to celebrate Cristin and Scott. They are from Gainesville but met in Savannah three years ago and decided to celebrate right where it all started. The wedding went off without a hitch. We walked and drove around town and down on River Street to capture images of them. Ultimately, we all gathered at the Marshall House for a kickin' reception. Fun was had by all. Cristin and Scott, I hope you enjoy the images and memories. It was a beautiful occasion marking the start of something beautiful. I am excited for you and your life together. Libby + 2 Months

Our friends, Kelli and Jason, welcomed Libby into the world just over two months ago! She is a such a cutie. There's no mistaking she is a daddy's girl! I was invited into their home to photograph this time in their life. It was a chilly morning in late October, so we opted for photos indoors. We spent the morning wandering around the house, taking pit stops for snacks and naps as we went along. It is so much fun to watch friends turn into adoring, capable parents. Valerie + Chris | Engaged

Wow! It has been SOOO long since I have blogged. For the first part of 2010, I must admit, Facebook took the blog's place... After ditching Facebook in July, I have to say I have enjoyed taking a good break from the blog, facebook, all of it. But now, I will dust off a few cob webs and show you a little work I've been doing. Two weeks ago, I joined Valerie and Chris for a tour around downtown Little Rock. Valerie is a Law Student at the William H. Bowen School of Law and Chris is a Med Student at UAMS. To say these two are busy is an understatement. It was such a treat to run around on a calm, blue skied, October afternoon with these two to document this time in their lives. I hope you enjoy the slideshow of our time together! Deirdre and Jamie are such a sweet couple! Robert and I have known them for years. In fact, Robert and Jamie went to high school together... lots of history there! Speaking of history, Jamie is a history buff. He studied, or did a paper on, or investigated the Rivermarket district at one point in his college career. Needless to say, the Rivermarket and the Junction bridge were two musts on our tour of downtown. The three of us met up on a beautiful spring day to wander about and capture this time in their life. Ryder + 4 Months

Just before the Christmas Holiday, Ryder was welcomed into the world. He is the bouncing baby boy of Cope and Casey who are good friends of ours. We all anticipated his arrival and were thrilled to hear he made it - safe and sound! I photographed Ryder around Christmas, but due to the hustle and bustle of the season, those photos never hit the blog... but it wasn't for lack for lack of want. This little fella is so stinkin' cute! He is a flirt, a giggler, and might just be teething... maybe. With mom and dad surrounding him and Bud, his canine friend, protecting him, Ryder is the center of attention and soaks it up!

We all gathered on a cloudy Saturday afternoon just over a week ago to capture this part of his life. Babies AMAZE me. They grow SO fast, are taking everything in, and have personalities that they can express without words. They are truly a gift and such a wonderful reminder of life's simplicity. Melissa + Chris | Married

It was a GORGEOUS spring day! Bright! Colorful! Melissa and Chris gathered with their family and friends at Immaculate Conception in North Little Rock to celebrate their marriage. The goal wasn't great photos or a performance. The goal was to get married. Plain and simple. And then have a party! Melissa and Chris accomplished that hands down! They are a really sweet couple. They shy away from the spotlight and savor the moments they share with each other and their adoring family and friends. It was a treat to work with them and to capture those moments. Melissa | Beautiful Bride

Melissa and Chris tied the knot yesterday! It's official!!! That being said, it's now "safe" to share her bridal portraits. Melissa and I set a date for mid March to shoot her portraits. The weekend before, we both participated in the Little Rock marathon (She did the full. I did the half.). The weekend before was unseasonably warm and pleasant! The weekend before would have been totally comfortable for a beautiful bride to traipse around in a slinky dress. The only thing is, we didn't do them the weekend before. We did them on a COLD, windy day the weekend after! Spring had sprung but it didn't stick around long enough for us to stay warm! Bless Melissa's heart, she was SUCH a trooper. We made it quick and got some really wonderful shots of her beautiful self! Melissa, thanks so much for asking me to be a part of this time in your life. It has been so much fun to see you as an adult. You are truly a treasure! I hope you know that more and more each day! Happy marriage!

Maggie Mae + Miles

Babies. Aren't they amazing? They grow and change and become these amazing human beings. They are always such a good reminder of how it all begins, how simple life really is, and what a marvelous creation we all are. Fearfully and wonderfully made. I had the pleasure of meeting Miss Maggie Mae at 5 days old. Her soft, limp, sleepy self. I also had the pleasure of meeting her 11 month old little brother, Miles. Together, they are a serious handful! In contrast to Maggie, Miles is a ball of energy - into everything, curious, smiley, and so darn cute. He is going to be a real charmer! Together, the four of these people create the most adorable family. It was beautiful to see Natalie and Paul work together to care for these little kiddos. They fed, changed, bathed, tickled in tandem. It was a delight to follow them around capturing these moments in their newly expanded family's life. Thanks for inviting me in. I just love this shot. It's not your typical family portrait by any means, but I love what it shows. It shows the balance of their life. Working together. It shows the neediness of these kids and the love these parents have for them. And Bosco, learning his place in the family as the guard dog and confidant. I just think it's beautiful.

This family amazes me. I have known them for years from the sidelines but have recently had the priveledge to be invited in to document a section of their lives... Reese's first birthday! The day we gathered to shoot this celebration, I arrived at 8:00am. The girls were ready for action. I set up a mini studio in their living room where we all did our best to contain the highly entertaining two and a half year old sister, Emery, and the newly mobile birthday girl, Reese. It was a hoot! I hope you enjoy the photos!

Sadie's Family

Robert and I have known Kecia and Ryan for several years now. Kecia is friends with my best friends and so we run into each other at celebrations throughout the year... Christmas, birthdays, concerts in the park. We always, always love seeing them. If you know Robert and I, you know we are an unlikely couple. Robert's a very clean cut, preppy guy who has never met a stranger. I am much more casual and shy. But somewhere in the middle, we have an amazing bond that allows us to embrace each other's differences and in turn be better because of it. When I see Kecia and Ryan and hear about their life, they remind me of Robert and I. They seem very unlikely, but they are the perfect fit. The way the look at each and care for each other is touching. The way they laugh and understand each other is lovely to see. I really like them and am always encouraged by being with them... See! It does work!!!

Kecia has been saying for some time that she wanted family photos of she and Ryan and their girls - Sadie and Francis - their dogs, but it never happened. Early in the year, Sadie started acting very different. She was lethargic and drooling and clumsy. Something wasn't right. Kecia and Ryan took her to the doctor to find out that she has cancer... they were devastated. The treatment was surgery. Following the surgery, the need to document this time in their life became even more important. They weren't sure how long they will have Sadie, so the photos needed to happen yesterday! We set a date and location and made it happen. The day I met the four of them for photos, I would have said they were lying about their dog if I didn't know the background story. Sadie was BACK! The tumor was removed, and she has made a full recovery. What a celebration! And now they have photos to prove it! Enjoy!

Julianna + 18 Months

Julianna's mom contacted me a few weeks back. She was in search of a photographer who could just "keep snapping". Her 18 month old princess has moves, but not the modeling type! She is active and curious and is always on the go. I showed her some of my work, and we were off the races. I met the two of them, all bundled up, last Saturday. Saturday was a gorgeous day. Bright blue skies. Not a cloud in sight. The only element that was a bit in the way was the temperature. When I checked my phone as I headed out for the shoot, big numbers stared back at me - 22 degrees! Yikes! We met up at a local park and let Julianna run wherever she felt... swings, bridge, sand box, slides... she was on a mission with a passion for swings! It was cold, but with her parka zipped tight, Julianna didn't miss a beat. Meredith, her sweet mom, was so amazing with her. She talked to her, reasoned with her, explained things to her. I hope, if I'm a mom, that's how I talk with my children. Way to go, Meredith! I hope that you love the photos of your sweet J! Hugs to you both - Mary

Lora + Adam | Engaged

I've known Lora and Adam for YEARS... mostly separately. Adam grew up with my brother. All through high school, Sam (Walt's dad) and Adam were attached at the hip. He is pretty much an icon in the Wenger family. We all adore him, and he adores us right back... love it when it works that way! I don't know Lora nearly as well... mainly through other people. She is good friends with Lori (Walt's mom); has roomed with friends of friends; and used to go to church with us. What I know about Lora is 1) she is GORGEOUS 2) she has the most amazing red hair and 3) she loves our Adam, so we love her right back! She has a vibrant personality. These two just match. There is a bright light that shines in them both. They have a depth about them. They are two great people.

Lora emailed a few weeks back about getting together for an engagement shoot. I was so pleased and honored to be asked! We arranged to meet late in the afternoon and knew that we would be racing the clock from the start (it is winter and all). We started at a lake that has particular significance for them. It's where they had their unofficial first date! From there, we pretty much took a scavenger hunt of North Little Rock. I must say, this engagement session was not for the faint of heart. We encountered the LARGEST snake skins I have EVER seen, mud pits, No Trespassing signs, and human waste to name a few... but it was all worth it! Enjoy!

Melissa + Chris | Engaged

I got the email... "Mary, this is Melissa, you may not remember me, but..." But, YES I REMEMBER YOU! When I was in high school, my friend, Megan, and I used to "baby sit" for Melissa and her two brothers while their parents would go away for weekend long bike rides. How they did that was beyond me! It was always so much fun to get the call... we need a sitter! It was "work" but much more play. We had SUCH a blast with them. So to get the email about photographing her wedding was both a little bit of a reality check (my goodness we are ALL growing up) and a huge honor. Talk about a walk down memory lane! Melissa has grown up to be such a gorgeous, kind-hearted, sweet spirit. She and her fiancee, Chris, met at the University of Arkansas and live in Fayetteville where Chris is finishing up Law School. These two have a fondness for red wine, so without much provoking, we decided that it would be fun to meet at a vineyard in Altus. While we missed the grapes, we got COLOR... lots and lots of yellow leaves, blue skies, green grass, and bold clothes. It was perfect! Melissa and Chris, it was so much fun getting to run around the fields with you guys. I can not wait for more opportunities to work with you guys! You are adorable! I hope you love your images. Kristen + Michael | Engaged

Kristen and Michael are a really neat couple. They met when Kristen was in law school and was doing a clerkship at the firm Michael works at... scandalous! :) These two have been engaged for a while now and there's something I love about how they are letting the planning process linger... savoring these moments. One way to actually prove they are headed in this direction was to get together for a round of engagement photos. If you live in Arkansas, you know what a scheduling nightmare for outdoor events rain has been this year, but we three totally lucked out on October 25. There wasn't a cloud in the sky! It was GORGEOUS. Kristen wore a beautiful navy blue, velvet jacket and Michael wore a handsome baby blue sweater. All that blue coupled with the brilliant blue sky was so eye catching! These two are a happy, loving, soft spoken couple who lit up the camera. I hope you enjoy their photos! Kristen and Michael, I really look forward to celebrating your wedding day in May. Taylor + Nate | Married

Much like every other bride in 2009, rain has come into play. We have all been doing the Rain Dance praying and hoping that the rain stays away... just for a few hours... please. Taylor and Nate got their wish. We didn't have blue skies, but we did have dry seats for the outdoor ceremony. Taylor and Nate planned for a beautiful, intimate ceremony with close friends and family. It was a lovely affair. Pink roses and candle light tied everything together. The ceremony was held just outside the reception ballroom. Family and friends huddled together in the unseasonably chilly air as Taylor and Nate took their vows. Once the ceremony was over, the guests were invited to a lovely, sit down dinner and a night full of dancing. Every detail was attended to! Taylor and Nate, I hope you guys are thrilled with the outcome and cherish the memories of your beautiful wedding day for a lifetime. Erin and I have been friends since junior high... looong time! She is a dear friend who has stood the test of time. We went different directions in college but stayed in contact. The older I get, the more I totally appreciate that part. This was in a time where phone calls weren't cheap, internet was still sort of new (remember dial up connections?), and Facebook hadn't even been dreamed up. In a time like that, we still remained friends. Erin lived in Springfield, MO from the end of highschool through last fall when she packed herself and her sweet puppy, Huxley, up and headed back home. It was great to have her near me again. We had to figure out how to be friends again. It's completely different when someone comes for visits, and it's fast and intense. But when you live in the same town, friendship is approached differently. Not long after we figured it out, the dynamics were completely changed. Brian arrived on the scene! From the moment I heard the words, "I met a boy", I knew something was different. Remember that we've know each other for almost 20 years so I've heard a lot of "I met a boy". This one was different. After a very short time, the two were engaged. Come November 7, they will be married! It is my distinct pleasure to be the Matron of Honor at this amazing celebration. I am sooooo excited for them. They are a really fun couple. They laugh a lot. They communicate well. They have learned a lot about each other in a very short amount of time. Three weeks ago, Robert and I piled in the car and headed to Fayetteville to celebrate Amy and John's wedding. Robert and I met Amy a year and a half ago in Jamaica where we celebrated another friends' wedding, and it was our immense pleasure to be in Fayetteville to celebrate this time in Amy's life. Amy is my kind of bride. She's a little bit older, has a really busy life, is madly in love with this man, and just wanted a wedding. Now, I know it probably didn't feel quite this simple in her mind, but she handled this whole thing with such a matter-of-fact manner. It was delightful! Arkansas has been rainy this year. Like REALLY rainy. Like Seattle monsoon rainy... many, many inches over our usual. The prayer for Vanessa and Leland's wedding was NO RAIN, and we got it! We didn't get cool, crisp, no clouds, but we got no rain - so we were grateful. Leland and Vanessa got married at St. Andrews Cathedral in downtown Little Rock on September 19. It was a beautiful, traditional, Catholic service. After the ceremony, we shot their portraits and wandered our way through the dark, damp streets to Next Level Events for a fantastic celebration coupled with a Hogs game viewing. Vanessa and Leland thoroughly enjoyed themselves with 400 of their closest friends. It was such an honor to be among them documenting as they went. Congratulations to you both! Enjoy the memories! Early in the summer, I joined Vanessa and her lovely mother, Kathleen, for an afternoon of bridal fun! Part of what makes these images special is the contrast. Vanessa is a beautiful girl who is very casual. She loves comfort. Give her an oversized Patagonia fleece, her Kavu bag slung across her chest, and a comfy pair of shoes, and she is good to go. So, it was a wonderful treat to see her with her hair styled, makeup done, nails dressed, jewelry on, and her gorgeous gown. Just over a week ago, I joined Mary Kathryn and her two adorable parents at their home for an early morning shoot to document Mary Kathryn's first year. We piled onto the front porch, played around the front lawn, and wandered into the street. We didn't go far, but we got miles of wonderful images. Mary Kathryn has an awesome personality. She's easy going, very observant, and communicates clearly even though her words aren't ready yet. She has an hilarious laugh... almost like she's been smoking for 40 years, hearty, contagious laugh. It's awesome! I just love these photos of this sweet, sweet family. I hope you fall in love with them as much as I did. Enjoy!

Gregg and Julie Curtis are the cutest garden center owners you'll ever meet. They own The Good Earth Garden Center in Little Rock, AR. It is a wonderful establishment that sells high end retail garden products and landscapes. Several close friends work at the Curtis' and it is such a pleasure to see them thrive at work. Loving what you do is so much easier when you work for people you love and love you right back.

Last month I was commissioned to photograph the couple at their garden center. It was Gregg and Julie's first photo shoot alone in YEARS. Brooke + Keith's Wedding

I joined Stacy Kinzler of Stacy Kinzler Photography to photograph Brooke and Keith's wedding on July 18 at Saint Andrew's Cathedral in downtown Little Rock. We had such a good time. The weather was OUT OF CONTROL for a mid-July wedding. I think the high was in the upper 80's with low humidity... not typical for we Arkansans. It was divine! We met Brooke and her attendants at the Old State House for shots of all the girls. Then we took Keith and his groomsmen in the back alley for their close ups. They didn't want to see each other before the wedding, so we went to great lengths to make sure that surprise was preserved! The full-mass ceremony was beautiful. It's hard not to be blown away by the grandeur of the newly renovated cathedral. Following the ceremony, we took a brief walk next door to the reception that was catered by friends of Brooke's dad. They did a wonderful job! The hot music of the night was none other than Michael Jackson covers. Nothing can get a group on the dance floor faster than that man's tunes... may he rest in peace. Everyone had a great time. Keith is from Boston, MA which made for a really fun combination of North Eastern party goers and timid Southerners. It was great to see! Stacy, thanks for letting me tag along. We truly have one of the best jobs in the world!

It has been a long while since I wrote anything here. Sorry for the dry spell. It's been a busy summer on many levels, but photos have been a little slow with the high heat and busy schedules of couples and families. The photo schedule is beginning to fill back in... couples are getting engaged, everyone is having babies, family portraits are about to hit high gear, and houses are going up on the market left and right.

One precious child has been keeping me busy. Walt. By now you know him quite well. It's hard to believe that Walt is already 6 months old! First, it feels like he has always been here. He is such a big part of all of our lives and he can't even speak, yet! That said, it is AMAZING how much he has changed. How much he has grown. How much more mobile he is. It's AMAZING!

Lori, Sam, Walt and I joined up at Mim's house (Lori's mom and dad's house) for a photoshoot to document this quarter of his life. Working with a baby is a little tricky. You have to keep him happy but not annoyed, busy but not distracted. You have to move FAST. It's really fun. Here's what we came up with! Enjoy!

On a sun drenched afternoon, Jodi and Caleb celebrated their wedding at Lake Point Conference Center in Russellville, AR. It is a lovely area that has a summer camp meets college campus vibe to it. The ceremony was held in the pavilion. Immediate family and honored guests were seated in rows at the front by the action. Round tables, chairs, and cocktail tables were scattered throughout the rest of the pavilion with simple floral arrangements for the other 200 guests. It was warm, but not too hot. And it was sunny! It was a perfect day to get married. Jodi's bridesmaids were gorgeous in their pink, strapless, knee length dresses. Caleb's groomsmen were dapper in their tuxes. Everyone was glowing. Everyone was sooo excited that this day had come! These two people, this perfect match, were finally getting married! It was so much fun to see the simple, sweet, honest commitment that these two have for each other. They love each other. Simple as that. There were minor hickups throughout the day, but everyone just rolled with the punches and maintained perspective - Jodi and Caleb were getting married! What else REALLY matters? Jodi and Caleb tied the knot last Saturday, so it is now safe to show off some of Jodi's beautiful bridal shots! In preparation for the celebration, Jodi and I met to capture some portraits of her in her wedding gown! The weeks leading up to our session, it rained... constantly! We took these photos one week before their wedding, so it was very important that rain or shine we had a place to be. There was no time to reschedule! Jodi reserved the Old State House to be on the safe side, but wouldn't you know it - it was GORGEOUS the day of the shoot! The Old State House was perfect, though. It is a beautiful building filled with history and surrounded by beautiful grounds in the heart of downtown Little Rock. It was a perfect backdrop for sweet Jodi! Jodi has such a fun spirit. She's kind, gentle, and has a real zest for life. She's spunky and cute! She's a real catch! Now they are married and are gearing up for their honeymoon. Taylor and Nate are such a fun couple. They have style. Chemistry. They are crazy about each other. And most importantly, they crack each other up! We met last fall. Taylor contacted me about her wedding date, and I could tell this woman means business. She is following, to the "t", a master plan. There is no deviance from the list, but I'm telling you what, they will have a tip top event! They are planning a fantastic wedding celebration for this coming fall with a very short list of invitees and attention to every detail. When I met with Taylor and Nate, I took them on a tour of a sample album, card samples, and my blog. After sifting through image after image, Nate made the connection that what they do - the colors they pick, the details they incorporate - makes all difference. It was like music to my ears... a couple that gets that my job is to document their day. If they like color and detail, it's up to them to incorporate those elements! Hallelujah! I CAN NOT wait to see what they bring to the table. Whatever it is, it will be FABULOUS! So, last week, we met on the streets of Little Rock to capture their Engagement Photos. It was a fun tour through the streets complete with random trash, homeless people, and a WHOLE LOT of sizzle. Taylor and Nate, you guys are wonderful! Last week I had the pleasure of meeting one of my friends from high school's youngest child. Sully is 18 months old and the third boy! His brother's have trained him to run and never look back! Sully is an adorable, wide eyed boy who's main focus is dirt, sticks, or anything he can get his hands on and then eat. I met up with them at their house to start and then we three piled in the car for a field trip to the President Clinton Library lawn. As Katie prepped Sully after the car ride, I realized that inside I felt like I was gearing up to run a race. Sure enough, he hit the ground running! We had a really fun time running across the lawn of the Library, up and down the hills near the river, and finally piled back into the car just in time for his early afternoon nap. George and Henry came into the world at 26 weeks. After a lengthy stay in the hospital, these precious babies are home and healthy. It was such a treat to be invited into their home to capture these early moments in their lives. They are tiny... not compared to what they started out at, but they are still little. At four months old, they weigh in around 7 pounds! But they keep fighting - everyday getting stronger and stronger. The most amazing thing to watch for me were Ashley and Brian. Their little guys were pretty unhappy on and off throughout our time together, and yet I never sensed any aggravation, tension, nervousness. The calm manner that they talked to the boys, to each other, and must feel about themselves was remarkable. Thank you so much for the opportunity to spend part of an afternoon with you guys. Where to start? This couple rocks! Okay... a little background. Amy is friends with my freinds, Cristie and Gareth. Cristie and Gareth got married in Jamaica about a year ago, and we we all went to join in the celebration. I had the pleasure of photographing the occasion, so Amy got to see me in action. Fast forward a couple of months, and Amy meets John... pretty much end of story! The two hit it off INSTANTLY! You know the motto - true love, why wait? The two are getting married in October, and about a month ago I got the call. Can I shoot her wedding? OF COURSE! John lives about 5 hours away from Amy, so they do a lot of commuting. Little Rock happens to be a convenient meeting spot for them which worked out really well for me. We met at the Peabody Hotel to start the shoot. I couldn't remember what we talked about as far as clothing goes, but when they walked off the elevator, I got really excited! They were stylin'! We hit the streets and had a fantastic time as you can see below. Amy and John, you are such a delight! Your chemistry is contagious. You both are really quick to laugh, have great senses of humor, are darn cute together and apart, have a fantastic sense of style... I could go on. Truly a delight! Kathryn and Brian sealed the deal on April 4. It was a beautiful, windy Spring day. We all gathered at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Little Rock for the ceremony festivities. Kathryn was lovely in her silk gown. Brian was dapper in his tux. Both were a bit nervous. As a photographer, I see all kinds of brides and grooms, but there is always something really wonderful about a couple that is a bit nervous... there's an awareness of the gravity of what getting married means. There was a sense that Kathryn and Brian were not walking into this lightly. I really respect that about them.

We shot a few photos to document the day but needed to take some time to rest and reflect on this momentous day. The ceremony was intended to be for a small audience, but quite a few people showed up for the service. It was brief and to the point. The officiant was delightful and had wonderful, simple words for the couple and for all of us. From there, the party got started at the Country Club Little Rock. About Vase outdid themselves with gorgeous, tropical floral arrangements and fun details like candle chandeliers hung above the dance floor. The cake was incredible both to look at and to taste. I swear the icing was more butter than cream - just right! The band, Almost Famous, came in from Memphis. The tunes were familiar for my generation but were the biggest hit with the 10 and younger crowd! Those kids danced until they crashed!

The wedding was gorgeous, the bride was radiant, the day a success! Kathryn and Brian, thanks so much for including me in the wedding festivities. I am thrilled for you guys and look forward to hearing from you when you get back from Hawaii! Live it up! You guys deserve it! Hugs - MT

Our friends, Vanessa and Leland, plan to tie the knot in September! I am so excited for them and honored to be along with a camera to document this time in their lives. We met up yesterday afternoon to capture a few images for their Save the Date cards... we'll call it a mini-engagement session! It was a dreary, uninspiring afternoon, but they brought the fire. Second Chance Prom

My friend and local radio personality, Pool Boy, is hosting Second Chance Prom on March 28, 2009 at the Crowne Plaza at the corner of Markham and Shackleford. The party starts at 8:00pm, and we'll go until they kick us out! I will be there taking those cheesy prom pics that we all love to hate as well as party pics throughout the evening! Rixie + Brandon's Denim and Diamonds Affair

Rixie and Brandon celebrated their wedding on February 7. To get the festivities started on the right foot, Brandon's family threw them a wonderful rehearsal dinner at Michelangelo's Restaurant in Conway, AR. They solicited the help of the style genius, Becky Charton, who took the theme and RAN with it! These folks are ALL about details. It was such a treat to photograph the end result. From the moment the guests walked off the elevator, they were greeted
with ambiance - tying the whole evening and theme together.

Tiff's Belly Pics

My beautiful sister-in-law is pregnant with my nephew, Jack. He's scheduled to arrive sometime in early May, and we can't wait to meet him! Tiffany is the proud mom of Haley and Grayson (who also grace the pages of this blog). Jack makes number three for their family and in honor of this time in her life, Tiff wanted to have some photos taken to remember it by. It's been a big year for their family on many levels, and it is such an honor to hear the story and cheer wildly from the sidelines. Tiff, Robert and I adore you and your family. Meet Walt

My brother, Sam, and his beautiful wife, Lori, brought Walter Owen (Walt) into the world 2 weeks ago yesterday. He is the first grandbaby in mine and Lori's families and he is a BIG deal. I know that I speak with total bias, but frankly people, I don't think you've ever seen a cuter kid! It has been fun to meet him and I really look forward to when they figure out their schedule as a family and feel more settled in their routines. My theory is that when that happens, I'll be able to play with him more! Won't that be fun?! Yesterday, I joined them at their adorable home in Park Hill to photograph this moment in their life. Walt isn't sleeping quite as much these days as he did two weeks ago, so he wasn't terribly agreeable with the whole arrangement. But over the course of the afternoon with feedings and diaper changes, we got what we wanted... cute photos of our newest favorite little man! I hope you enjoy!

The past week has been a wild ride! I won't burden you with details, but suffice it to say that I started a new freelance photo styling job, laid my Grandfather to rest, and celebrated the birth of my nephew Walt within the span of 4 days. It's been WILD! The silver lining through all of this has been new life and the presence of all our relatives who came from near and far to grieve and celebrate with us. One of the participants was my cousin's new baby, Asher. He was born on Christmas Eve ringing him in at just under one month old. My cousin and his wife joined us from Florida with their new bundle of joy, and I just couldn't resist taking a few snaps of his new little self! He wasn't that interested in the idea, so after about 5 minutes he insisted I quit... already taking after his dad! He's a cutey! Mark and Elizabeth, thanks for coming to join us and bringing Asher along. It was fabulous to see you both and such a pleasure to meet your little man. I love you each!

After months of preparation, an engagement and bridal session, multiple visits, lots of laughs, and a little stress, Dana and Sean celebrated their wedding! It went off without a hitch. The wedding was at 2pm on January 3 which could have been confused with any day in May. The weather, though icky in the morning, warmed right up to near 70 degrees with gorgeous blue skies! It was amazing. We had a great time! Dana and Sean, thanks so much for including me in this celebration. It was such an honor to document this amazing time in your life. I hope you will always look back and smile. Your journey has just begun! Enjoy the ride! Best - MT

After the ceremony, Dana and Sean took a breather. I snapped a few shots and then let them be until the extended family gathered for photos. When I went to fetch them, Dana stood up with big tears in her eyes. She made it through the entire morning without a tear but when they had a moment alone Sean told her something that touched her heart. It was so sweet to see!

Let’s Eat Cake, an amazing fundraiser hosted by the equally amazing Melissa Margarita-DiStefano, is coming up quick: Tuesday, February 17th at the Plaza Paramount Hotel! Let’s Eat Cake is a cake decorating competition with all proceeds going to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Learn more about the fundraiser right here.

Dana - Beautiful Bride

Earlier this fall, I joined Dana at the Foster Robinson house to photograph her stunning brideness. It was such a pleasure working with her. We had our first set of Holiday visitors in our married life this Christmas! It was so special to share some time and space with Robert's brother and nephew. They were in town for a couple of days visiting Robert and Allen's sister and family, and we were the landing/launching pad. It was great! We had two sleepovers. Allen's mom, my mother-in-law, put in an order for some photos of the little man so she has images on her walls in her home in Japan. My pleasure! Little Al and I messed around for all of 7 minutes. He was ready to strike a pose, but when it was done it was done! Too funny! Allen, thanks for coming down for Christmas. We loved seeing you and spending time with you. You two are always welcome!
